# Where are screenshots saved on Android? — Adinand Auto File Sorter

**Open the Photos app, tap Collections, then On this device, then Screenshots.** On an older Android without that app, open your phone's Gallery app and tap Album view, then the Screenshots folder. Screen recordings are kept next door: On this device, then Movies.

## The route, from Android's own help

Android's help page on taking a screenshot gives both paths. The current one: "Open the Photos app. At the bottom, tap Collections and then On this device and then Screenshots." And the fallback, with a diagnosis attached: "If you don't have the Photos app, you're likely running an older Android version. Open your phone's Gallery app and tap Album view and then Screenshots folder."

For a screen recording, the same page points one album over — "At the bottom, tap Collections and then On this device and then Movies." Which is a small clue about how Android thinks: these are not documents, they are media, and they are filed with your photos rather than with your downloads.

## Why they pile up quietly

Because they never feel like files. A screenshot is taken in a second to remember something for an hour, and then it stays. Files by Google has a card for precisely this — its "Old screenshots" card offers Select files, and Google describes it as a way to free up space "through the deletion of screenshots created or received more than 4 weeks ago". A screenshot folder is also a good illustration of why a sorter should never be pointed at everything by default: it is one of the few folders on a phone that is already organised, by the system, for a reason.

## Where Adinand Auto File Sorter fits

Screenshots is one of the watched-folder presets on the Pro side, alongside WhatsApp Documents, Telegram and Bluetooth, and a preset is only offered when that folder actually exists on your phone. Add it and screenshots are treated like anything else the app sorts: moved into `Downloads › Sorted Files`, into `Images`. That is a real trade — they leave the folder your gallery app expects them in — which is why it is off unless you ask for it.

The folder your camera writes to is deliberately never offered as a preset at all. And nothing is sorted out of a sub-folder: only the files sitting directly in a watched folder are touched.
